How successful was the video?
In my opinion, i believe that our preliminary music video was very successful especially as it is of such a good quality as we managed to get new cameras and we managed to complete editting our preliminary music video first in the whole of our year group. We had Chanel in the background tellling us what exactly what to do, giving us instructions and direction on how to improve to get our video to the best of our ability. We had to do several takes, the first take, we felt a bit silly so we were not performing as well as we could, the second performance got better and by the third performance, we had it in the bag, we were going for it, really giving it our all and that is the reason our video came our so good because we developed confidence, we made sure we had no rest during the takes so that we just got on with it straight away so that our mindset wouldn't drift elsewhere.

100 greatest Music Videos
In todays lesson, we found that we need to investigate independent research on the 100 best video's since the beginning in 1960s. This was made by channel 4. Golden age of music video has passed. Late 1970s-1990's (peak for music video) less tv meant that everybody saw music video.
Today we look at 100 countdown to 90.
100- Music youth - Pass the Dutchie 1962 (First home grown british blackband. If you were black and wanted to make a point, you had to say it with a smile or a joke. In the video, blacks found not guilty.
99- Supergrass- pumping on your stereo
98- Bronski beat/smalltown boy in london, gay gets beaten up for being gay, very contraversal video and rose awareness of how shallow people can be.
97- Cornershop- Brimful of Ash (video shot across two continents
96- So solid crew - 21 seconds 2001, 21 seconds to introduce themselves whole story within 3minutes. It was said they were racist and if it was group of white kids, the public would have had a positive view on the crew but because they were black it was pure racism.
95- Joanus Ackerlund- Cardigan my favourite game. Love affair the game
a94- Bonnie Tyler- Total eclipse of the heart
93- Rolling stones- we love you (Brian Jones died of drugs) drowned in a swimming pool.
92- Rocket, MTV was huge hit (adds value to song)
91-The specials- ghost town 1981
90- The pet shop boys/go west 1993, cartoon esc computer graphics style.

Preliminary music video
In todays lesson, we filmed out preliminary music video .. we sang Elton John's famous 'Dont go breakin my heart'
Before we began to film, we had to bluetooth the song to our phone so that we had the soundtrack.
We then began to play the song aloud so that we get to know the lyrics and the beat of the song.
When we began to film, thereasa and myself had to make sure that we sang out aloud so that our lip syncing looked realisitic.
During this process, we learned how to match the lip syncing to the audio to make our lip syncing look realistic, we had to delete the audio of us actually singing and put the audio of the actual song on the timeline so that we could match the lip syncing correctly.
We learnt how to direct eachother, telling eachother what to do to make our performance better.
We also learnt that taking whole takes is better for a music video and easier to take longer clips because it is easier to edit rather than smaller takes because what ever you don't need you could just get rid of.
We also learnt how to fade in and fade out the clips or even overlap the clips by putting them next to eachother on the timeline and putting a dotted icon onto the time line and dragging the line that appeared downwards to create a fade out. In order for the two clips to overlap, we had to put 2 clips on different layers one on top of the other.
Once the video is complete , it will be uploaded on here!

Case Study: Jamie Thraves
In todays lesson, we looked at a Case Study regarding Jamie Thraves and how he became a successful director!
Director: Jamie Thraves
Made short films
Used award winning short films as a 'calling card' to get a foot in the door with the video production company factory films.
This is exactly how the process works:
-A commisioner from a record label sends a track to 5-10 directors
-The directors then each submit a treatment
-This stage is unpaid
-The director who has submitted the 'best' treatment is then commisoned to make the video
-Only then is the director paid
As can be seen, many directors in the business it is a precarions existance where their livelihood is dependent on each commission.
Jamie Thraves submitted treatments for his two best known video's and each was accepted.
1 Radiohead video - Just
£100,000 budget (shot in just 3 days)
2 Coldplay - The scientist
£200,000 budget (shot in just 3 days)
Jamie Thraves - most recent video
Japenses popstars - songs for Lisa
Currently video cost about about £200,000 shooting time 2 days. Jamie has used the music video's to get into film business
Has so far shot three features
The low down
The cry of Owl
-Use the lyrics but try not to be too literal
-Go with the lyrics of the song

How might we measure the success criteria of a music promo video?
In todays lesson, Mr Johnson talked us through how we know a musci video has become successful. We gave our ideas in and it became a creative discussion. As a class these are the ideas we came up with:
-People talk about it (word of mouth)
-Official charts
-Lots of Youtube hits
-Downloads of the video
-Newspaper articles/TV reports
-How many times shown on TV
-Amount of publicity for example Madonnna- like a prayer is the most clever video, most contraversal because she has this whole idea that Jesus is black so it gained a lot of publicity
-Legal & illegal downloads
-Charts
-CD sales
There has been a massive switch in the importance of Youtube from television channels such has MTV.
Most viewing of music video now appears online.
-MTV awards
-VMA awards

Music promo video
I am back at school now, first media lesson back and I am ready to work!
Purpose and Success criteria for a music video, in other words, the correct ingredients.
Today in the lesson, we had a look at the music video
Talking heads - Once in a lifetime
We then went on to discuss, what is the purpose of a music video?
Individually, we had to write down answers of what we thought, after that, we shared our ideas amongst the class, these are some of our ideas:
-Enterain an audience
-Show story to lyrics if it has one (narrative structure)
-Form of self expression of artists
-Add value to the song (audience remember song because of brilliant video)
-Advertisment
-Draws attention to the song
-Appeals to visual audience
-Create an image
-Persuade audience to buy CD download
-Raises the audience awareness of the artists profile
-Product placement e.g Christina aguilera & her perfume (not myself tonight)
In 1970, Queen's couldnt get off of the charts on top of the pops!
